*In this post I use a fair amount of sailing jargon, I'm going to make a cheat sheet at the bottom to hopefully help those who do not sail :)
Sail School:
Well that was a very packed week! Last week (the 18th-22nd of June) I was at something called Sail School. Sail School is a week long camp that teaches sailing to all age groups. It is run out of our sailing club Eugene Yacht Club.
I have been volunteering to teach the one week camp for about 7 or 8 years. (not sure how many exactly after a while you lose track) This year I was teaching what is basically known as the beginning adult class in this case the day sailor class. I had wonderful students that did well.
Our weather, on the other hand left us something to be desired... The first few days were rather wet, yet windy and thursday was warm enough that I went for a swim in the middle of the lake and by that I mean I capsized my boat on purpose and swam around a little and got back in. Then Friday there was absolutely no wind and was pouring all day long.

This is the exact boat that sank, looks pretty good though ;)
Regatta:
After this track record you would think that the weekend, when the regatta was would be no different. Well in fact the weather was equally bizar just in a much windier way. The first day of the regatta (Saturday) was a really strange wind day, started out fairly light, but there. Then turned into a drifter, then a weather front came through and quite literally swept a few boats off the course. There were multiple capsizes, and one of our boats even sank! Luckily no one was hurt and at 6 am the next day they pulled the boat, which was at the bottom of the lake save about two feet, to the top using drivers who placed floatation so bring the boat back. After looking at it you would have never known it went down there was no damage except for a mast head-fly that was broken.
Sunday was not nearly as diverse as saturday, but there was certainly enough wind. All in all a good regatta, just a little crazy at times.
